Im not suggesting that its not a good product, just one thing to keep in mind.A solid cutter doesnt make much sense so I was looking for a recommendation.
I think youd be money ahead just using 2 smaller carbide tools and rotate them from finisher to rougher. ![]() Ill pick one up for my first run of parts (200 ea 416SS things) and see how it holds up. AB Tools makes helical dovetail cutters that will last forever. ![]() Heres the link: Seems to work OK but it looks expensive and is noisy as hell on the UMC 750, even when its just cutting aluminum. Dont know about frequency of insert changes, but Ill betcha with such a floppy machine as the UMC, its probably not too good. If theyre run in a nice stout VMC though, and chucked up short, they should stand up better. Cheers Marcus Implant Mechanix Vancouver Wire EDM -- Wire EDM Machining Clarus Microtech. What little exposure Ive had with inconel would suggest that would be the true test of its practicality. In a school environment, I was astounded by the cost of a 5 axis vise, nevermind an additional stamping unit. I have always been impressed by the holding power of those little vises. With proper maintenance and stamping pressure a long jaw life can be expected. Also, the jaws can be refurbished up to 6 times per pair really inexpensively. I would be happy to stamp some workpieces for testing at no charge if needed. Eric. We would be happy to test sample workpieces for testing if needed.
